Flakes are a-Flyin’!

Many locations picked up a dusting of snow today.  It may have melted… and then accumulated again… depending on where you live.  Snow showers will continue this evening and overnight as another piece of energy rounds the base of our trough into our area.  The NAM and the GFS both have this feature timed out for around 1 AM:

Where you see the “X” is a vorticity maximum… or “vort max” for short.  It is the center of an upper level disturbance.  Accumulations will likely be around an inch or less… but we do have to watch for slick spots on the roads.  Temperatures have been hovering around freezing all day, and will dip down into the lower 20s overnight… refreezing any liquid out there.  And additional snowfall on top of any icy patches can lead to dangerous conditions!  Be cautious!

This trough will lift out a bit… as a big ridge tries to build in Tuesday & Wednesday:

So temps will warm *a bit*… although staying chilly and below average.

BUT another disturbance will put us right back in a trough by the time we get to the end of the week:

That will keep us in a colder airmass for Friday and the weekend.  So OSU tailgaters/game-goers will need some layers!  :)
