Warming!
Another refreshing start today, with temperatures in the 50s. We’ll be a bit warmer this afternoon, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s across the area. We’ll see similar conditions on Wednesday, before that cold front drops in.
It looks like the front will hang around a few days before moving through over the weekend:

Then, the models look cooler for Sunday and next week, with another trough over the Great Lakes:

Not surprised, as this has been part of the weather pattern all year: The long-term longwave trough over the Great Lakes! What will the winter months bring? We will have a better idea in Oct/Nov, as the new pattern sets up. It does look to have an El Nino influence, which we’ve talked about before. That can bring mild temperatures to our area over the winter months. But will it? Stay tuned…
There is an area worth watching in the tropics this morning. It has a good chance of developing into the next named storm, which would be Danny:

whats our average tempurature this month vs. normal so far?
I went on a family trip to Tennessee over the weekend. It was my first time in the Smokies and I was really impressed. I got to walk a couple of hours on the Appalachian trail up by Newfound Gap. It was really cool and misty and eventually a cloud would blow over the trail which was really neat. I loved watching how the clouds reacted with all the mountains. I even climbed the Chimney tops which was really scary but worth all the pictures i got. We got poured on Saturday night by an isolated thunderstorm right after we got out of the Roaring Fork Motor Trail (a one way narrow winding road) we were lucky we weren’t stuck in the woods. We even saw 3 different bears one for each day we were there. On Sunday morning we saw one on the Baskin Falls trail and had to turn around. The Smokies are an amazing place. I’m glad i finally got to have the experience. I’ll definitely be going back again.
Andrew, we are about one degree below normal for the month thus far. Thanks for the great entry about your vacation. I love the mountains!
