Blue skies gone… snow showers tonight

February 7th, 2012 at 7:24 am by under Weather

The bright blue sky we have enjoyed the past couple of days will NOT be the case this afternoon.  A low cloud deck has invaded the Miami Valley overnight.  This stratus deck has temperatures a bit warmer this morning (holding near freezing), but the breeze still makes it feel like the 20s.  We may see some mixing out of these clouds–the best chance of this will be across the south.  Otherwise, clouds hold tight, and temps will be a good deal cooler than yesterday.  Here’s a look at the forecast highs for today:

If any breaks in the clouds do occur today, they will be short-lived.  An approaching cold front brings even more clouds later today.  The front itself looks to move through dry… but some upper level energy heads our way tonight, and this will kick off scattered snow showers.  Amounts look light, but the timing of the event (for the morning commute) is of concern:

Watch for slick spots as you head out Wednesday morning.  During the afternoon, the whole system pulls off to the east, and we’ll dry out.  Clouds may linger for awhile Wednesday, but as high pressure builds in Thursday, we are back to sunshine.  The weekend still looks a good deal colder behind a stronger cold front.  Highs will remain blow freezing both Saturday and Sunday, with lows in the teens.
