Pleasant weather, a look UP and a look BACK…
It’s a tale of two weekends, and the graphic Tara left for me this morning says it all… we went from HOT… to… NOT!
Friday was actually pretty chilly, as most of the day we were in the 50s with lots of clouds. Then the gradual warm-up over the weekend back to a pleasantly warm Sunday afternoon. Today we will be a few degrees cooler, but we still expect a very nice day, with highs in the mid-70s. Most locations will stay dry today, too, but there is a slight–10%–chance of a spotty shower or two in the far western counties. We are in northwest flow aloft–and will be for the first half of the week. Energy may drift our way in this pattern, and especially when it occurs with daytime heating… the chance of a few showers will be there. You can see one such disturbance this morning on the SatRad image:
Again, most of that will stay west of us, but that slight chance is there in the far western counties. Futuretrac also shows the potential for some spotty showers tomorrow afternoon as another feature rolls through:
Not everyone will see this rain, however, it will be pretty hit-and-miss. And Tuesday features the best chance of rain this week!
This morning we had the Full Strawberry Moon–it was so bright! I captured it setting on our Preble County tower cam:
This full moon was named by tribes because of the strawberry harvest being in June. There was also a partial lunar eclipse this morning, but it really wasn’t visible here because it occurred after moonset. The best viewing for this was actually over the western US and Canada… and even better so in Hawaii, New Zealand, and central and eastern Australia. Here is a picture taken from Iowa:
Another cool phenomenon happens tomorrow evening, as Venus will pass right in front of the Sun. Tara did a blog on this yesterday… you can read more here: Venus Event.
Now that we’re into Meteorological Summer… looking back at the Spring season, we see the warmest Spring on record for our area! Our average temperature in Dayton was 57.9 degrees, which is almost 7 degrees above normal. The NWS in Wilmington put out a summary, which you can read here: Warm Spring
