The heat is not taking the holiday off

Happy 4th of July!  I hope everyone is having a great day!  Mine started quite interesting:  as I was getting my makeup on for the show, the whole makeup room suddenly went dark.  I mean DARK.  About 20 seconds later, I heard the generator kick on, and the lights flickered back on.  I immediately came into the Forecast Center to see how the computers did with the power hit.  Of course, all of them were rebooting, so any changes I didn’t save when in there earlier were lost.  I at least got everything back up and running.  When the power came back on, once again we had a hiccup and all computers shut off and had to reboot again.  That was 10 min before show time.  THEN yet another glitch, as power flickered maybe 30-seconds before the 4:30am news started.  Awesome.  Now that was the last power issue we had, but unfortunately, even after we have been back up and running for three hours… not everything is working properly.  What a holiday so far!

Because of all of this, the ol’ bloggy blog will be a little boring today.  Fitting, because that’s how I feel about our current weather pattern.  It’s BORING and quite uncomfortable.  These morning hours are actually the most comfortable hours of the day to get out and do outdoor activities, but even now you’ll be sweating buckets.  Our dew points are near 70 degrees… it is SO humid!  During the afternoon, we will climb into the upper 90s… and we’ll be there for three days straight.  Heat index values (feels-like temperatures) will be near or just above 100-degrees.

There is a break in the heat  showing up next week.  I am certainly looking forward to the upper–and eventually MID-80s on the way then!  Try to stay cool and enjoy your (as a colleague said) “hot dogs, hamburgers, heat and humidity!”  Happy Independence Day!

Sounds to me like WDTN needs to invest in a few UPSs (uninterruptible power supply) for your computers so they will stay up and safe until the generator can restore power to the building. I use them at home so my computers aren’t affected by short power glitches.
