Triple-digits and near record heat again…
Nothing has changed in our weather pattern… pretty much all week! We continue to BAKE under an upper level ridge… with an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING in effect for the entire Miami Valley. Highs will once again be up near 100-degrees today, with a heat index (or feels-like temperature) as high as 105. This is dangerous heat!! Physical activity in this heat is NOT recommended… and if you do have to be outside, frequent breaks and LOTS of water are a must. Drink water even if you are not thirsty. A sign of dehydration IS being thirsty, so stay hydrated so you don’t even come close. Here are the records and forecast for the next three days… we will be very close:
THURSDAY: Record 107°…. Forecast 99°
FRIDAY: Record 100°… Forecast 100°
SATURDAY: Record 100°… Forecast 98°
All week we’ve had about a 20-30% chance of a spotty thunderstorm… but most have seen NOTHING. Yesterday afternoon, looking east, you could see some thunderstorms trying to build. And finally, by the late evening, we did have some enter the Miami Valley. In fact, a couple became severe and prompted some warnings… with a few damage reports, too:
Similar conditions will be in place today, as we are right on the edge of the upper level ridge… so we will continue to be in the northwest flow. Any thunderstorms that develop over Michigan will have the chance to drift down our way:
And, with the hot, humid (and unstable) atmosphere, the potential for stronger thunderstorms is there again. The SPC has us in an ELEVATED risk for severe weather. We will keep an eye on it and keep you posted of any watches or warnings. Download the 2 News App now to always have the latest info–even when your out and about.
Models still show signs of cooling next week. I’m SO looking forward to those 80s!
