Top five hottest Julys… and August starts warm
The month of July this year makes it into the record books as one of the top five hottest Julys ever. Here is the rundown:
We are starting August warm, but not as hot as we were yesterday. We still should make it into the mid-80s this afternoon, but it won’t feel as humid today… as drier air moves in behind the cold front. The front didn’t bring too much rain to the area, as expected, as only a few spots got hit. There was one thunderstorm that did briefly reach severe limits yesterday evening… and there were a few counties warned for this cell. Thankfully, no significant storm reports came out of it.
High pressure now builds in behind the front and will be with us for a few days. This will bring us sunshine both today and tomorrow. As the high shifts east on Thursday, our winds will become more southerly… once again allowing hot and humid conditions to build in:
Highs will be in the lower 90s Thursday through Saturday. We’ll need to keep watering through the end of the week! Rain chances are slim through Friday, but do increase over the weekend. Saturday, we could see a few showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon… and there is a better chance on Sunday as the next cold front moves in. This front will drop temperatures again for next week.
Air Force Half Marathon training update… thank goodness for the Olympics!! Not only does watching all these amazing athletes motivate me to run… but the early Olympic coverage by NBC gives me an extra half-hour to get in a nice three & a half miles each day! One of the hardest parts about training is actually FINDING the time, so this is a tremendous help this week. I *plan* on doing a eight or nine mile run over the weekend… and I’m really hoping that pans out.
