Winter storm warning for all of the Miami Valley…

A major winter storm is heading our way!  The entire Miami Valley is under a Winter Storm Warning from 11am today through 1pm Wednesday.

We had a little snow and sleet overnight, but things have been fairly quiet this morning.  Additional showers will break out throughout the day, with several precipitation types possible.  It looks like it will mainly be a chilly rain along/south of I-70… with a better chance to see some snow/sleet mixing in the farther north you go.  Any accumulation today will be light, and of course the northern counties stand the best chance to see it.  Here’s Futuretrac at 5pm:

Between 5 and 8pm, we are likely to see a change-over to sleet and eventually all snow.  During this timeframe, preicp will be falling heavy in spots… and the potential for heavy snow will continue through midnight or 1am.  Even after that, moderate snow showers will continue into early Wednesday:

Depending on how fast (or how slowly) things change over… it will impact snowfall totals.  But it does look like travel this evening and overnight will deteriorate significantly.  Here is the thinking on totals, as of 9am… this is what we could see through Wednesday:

Be sure to tune in to Chief Meteorologist Brian Davis in our 90-minutes of news beginning at 5pm… and again at 10pm on Dayton’s CW… and 11pm on WDTN, Channel 2.  He will bring updates as the storm really cranks up and we see the precip change over.
