Last day of the heat & humidity… RELIEF on the way!September 11th, 2013 at 8:04 am by Jamie Jarosik under Weather
Ahead of a cold front today, we will continue with the southwest breeze and HOT temperatures. This morning, we’re starting off muggy and mild, and by this afternoon, we will once again will push the 90-degree mark! With high dew points it will feel even hotter– Expect heat index values in the mid-upper 90s today. Yesterday, temperatures got out of control, and we hit the highest numbers we’ve reached all summer, with an official high of 96 in Dayton. The heat index also shot up–went above 100° for a few hours:
This prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory… but today does not look QUITE as hot. As we reached peak heating yesterday, we also saw a few showers/t’storms pop up. Where it rained, there was some decent accumulation… but these were few and far between:
Today, we may get better rain coverage as more showers/t’storms pop up during the later afternoon hours. Any of them could produce heavy rainfall, and the SPC has our far northern counties included in an Elevated Risk for severe weather:
A better chance for rain will occur overnight and especially through the day Thursday, as a cold front moves through. Futuretrac has the rain spreading in during the mid-morning hours, and lingers the chances into the early afternoon:
Once the front is through, we’ll see a wind shift… and the northerly wind will usher in cooler and less humid air. A huge DROP in temperatures–it will feel like Fall on Friday! We expect a high near 67!!!
